Hometown: New York NY US EFFI BRIEST, the all female six piece from New York own an uncommon sound that is easily at home with both post punk and psychedelia.Their debut full length on Sacred Bones, RHIZOMES unleashes a propulsive beat that drives angular guitars and bone chilling vocals over dark bass, dense drones and clattering dance-like percussion. The layered atmospheric songs are accented with clarinet and all manner of percussive instrumentation casting sparksevocative of Arthur Russell to Can. The band have cut their teeth touring London, Paris, the West Coast, a slew of festival appearances, and a stint as house band for New York's Deitch Projects - and the press has taken notice with features in the NME, Uncut, Fader, Plan B, Dazed, Pitchfork, The Guardian, NY Press and The Village Voice. Two videos out now (previously released singles from Loog Records in 2007 and 2008 and included on the debut LP) are both haunting and spectacular. The cinematic "Long Shadow" directed by Brandon LaGanke and Mak Kern's spellbinding "Mirror Rim" showcase the unique energy of this six piece. Coming soon is a split with Peaches on Blast First Petite as part of the label's ongoing 10" tribute series to Suicide and as well as imminent touring in the U.S. and abroad. EFFI BRIEST is Kelsey Barrett (Vocals, Keyboard), Elizabeth Hart (Bass), Corinne Jones (Drums), Rebecca Squires, (Accordion, Clarinet) Sara Shaw (Guitar) and Jessica Stathos (Percussion). |
