The debut album by Robert Pollard's new band, BOSTON SPACESHIPS is arriving September 9 on Guided By Voices Inc. Records. "Brown Submarine" is a pop punk record, made by and for kids who've worn out the grooves on their Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Wire and dBs records.
BOSTON SPACESHIPS are CHRIS SLUSARENKO (Takeovers, Guided By Voices, Svelt, Sprinkler), JOHN MOEN (Perhapst, Decemberists, Jicks, Elliott Smith, Dharma Bums) and ROBERT POLLARD (needs no introduction) with special guests Tommy Keene & Jason Narducy.
Also, The Merge Records HQ will be hosting, "Town of Mirrors," a collection of collages by Robert Pollard. "Town of Mirrors" is the inaugural art show in their downtown Durham office on August 15th.
The inspiration behind the art show is the forthcoming coffee-table book entitled, "Town of Mirrors" which will be released by Fantagraphics on August 6, 2008. "Town of Mirrors" collects the very best of Pollard’s visual art and lyrics/poetry. Featuring over 180 of Pollard’s favorite collages, hand-picked by the artist, as well as over a dozen new collages produced exclusively for this book, "Town of Mirrors" is the first comprehensive collection of Pollard’s visual art ever released. The Durham show will include collages from the "Town of Mirrors" collection as well as newer pieces. Original artwork and copies of the book will be available for purchase.
