Chakeiya Camille Richmond, known professionally as keiyaA, is a Chicago-born, NYC-based artist. Her latest project, ‘hooke’s law’, released via XL Recordings last Friday, is the first release since her debut ‘Forever, Ya Girl’ that she independently released in 2020. Conceptualised over five years, ‘hooke’s law’ is keiyaA’s document of survival through intense self-interrogation. The album deconstructs and rebuilds her ego on her own terms, offering a safe space to process conflicting roles she’s inhabited growing up as a queer Black woman. The labyrinthine collection is caustic and disruptive, but also lively, carnal and club-centric.
