UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — Jason Balla, who has long been a rock and roll guy, is stepping into new sonic territory with a soft, intimate debut album and a solo tour kicking off this month.

Balla, known to many as a guitarist and vocalist for Chicago rock band Dehd, is embarking on a solo journey under the moniker Accessory, under which he released his album “Dust” last week. The release marks a shift in his musical creativity, as songs on “Dust” combine optimism and melancholy tension of the natural and digital world with quiet guitar layered with Copenhagen’s electro-acoustic sounds and improvised jazz.
