Lexie was born over text message. In the summer of 2016, Frankie Cosmos (NYC) and Warehouse (ATL) went on tour together. By the end of the tour, Alex Bailey (Warehouse guitarist) had written a second guitar part for a Frankie Cosmos song and started joining them on stage. After the tour, Alex & Greta (Kline of Frankie Cosmos) wanted to keep collaborating in some way, and started a co-writing project over text message, using voice memos. Every song from their debut album Record Time! was written long-distance, ultimately featuring Bailey on guitar, Kline on bass, and both of them singing. That winter, Doug Bleichner (drummer of Warehouse) and Alex came up to NYC and the trio rehearsed together to play their first show as Lexie. The night before their first show, they recorded Record Time! in a couple of hours with Carlos Hernandez at Gravesend Recordings, so that they could burn some CDs for their first show. Lexie showcases a different kind of songwriting than the associated acts, and remains a unique outlet for them.
