Today, emerging LA-based trio Casino Hearts announce their debut EP Lose Your Halo, set for release on 2 August. Alongside the news, the band share the EP’s lead single ‘In & Out of Time’ and its accompanying home video–style visuals.

Across the four self-produced tracks on Lose Your Halo, Casino Hearts have captured a sound that feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Influenced by the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Björk, Broadcast and Cocteau Twins, the EP is a sonic quilt of dream pop, distorted guitars and trance-like beats anchored by vocalist Forest Holter’s ethereal gossamer voice. ‘In & Out of Time’ is the ideal introduction to the band’s swirling shoegaze: lush and all-encompassing, complete with a hymnlike melody that lingers long after the song’s gentle close.

Of the track Forest shares: “in n out of time is about wanting to save someone to the point where you lose yourself; and the process of releasing that relationship as well as the guilt that inevitably follows. ie a girl with a christ complex falls for a boy who can’t see or appreciate the love that surrounds him.”

“We wanted it to feel fan or home made, something you’d discover on a deep dive into YouTube. We wanted to show Casino Hearts in a way that obfuscated past & present. Layering footage in the foreground and background provided additional dimension for the new and found footage to interact in a nonlinear way,” adds Nick Minor of the video.

Originally formed by Nick Minor (guitar, bass) and Jacob Rubeck (guitar, drum production) in their native Reno in 2013, Casino Hearts released a string of projects and quickly became a staple of the local music scene. When Jacob moved to Los Angeles, the band went on an indefinite hiatus with hopes to someday make music together again. In 2021, Nick moved to Los Angeles and the two members recruited Forest (keys and vocals) who would add a pop and electronic sensibility to the band’s indie rock sound, ushering the band into a new era.

The band first teased their new sound on their dublab radio takeover in June and will be performing at Viva! Pomona Festival in California on Saturday 20 July. Stay tuned for more to come from Casino Hearts.
